Majority in Stockholm, sweden wants to ban begging – Expressen

55% of the inhabitants in Stockholm believe that begging should be banned, according to the DN/Ipsos survey.

Last year, found 58 per cent that it should be allowed.

It is Ipsos that examined the attitude to begging, a study commissioned by the daily News.

the Measurement which was released on Sunday, shows that 55 per cent want that begging should be banned in the city. 31 per cent believe that it should be allowed and 13% say they do not have any opinion in the matter.

Ipsos head of research David Ahlin says to the newspaper that the results may be due to the leading politicians changed the attitude when it comes to begging.

But it can also be about how the survey was done. In the past, Ipsos has made a phone call to their interviewees. The new measurement is made via the web.

– this is just a hypothesis, but begging is an issue that some people experience as unpleasant and sensitive to answer. There can be a tendency to avoid responding in a way that can feel a little skambelagt when you get interviewed by another person, you respond instead in a way that is perceived to be socially appropriate, ” he says in the DN.

His analysis is that webbsvaren is closer to people’s real opinion. Previous surveys with similar question shows the same trend.

the Giving has also gone down. Last year, said 54 per cent that they do not give to beggars, this year it is 66 per cent. Only 17 percent say that they provide, compared with 35 percent last year.

the Attitude to the beggar is strong linked to the political resident. Among the V – and FI-electors a majority that begging should be allowed, while M and SD have sympathizers who are against.

– It is a question that is very politically polarizing. It is rare that we see something so partiskiljande, V and SD can not be further away from each other, ” says David Ahlin in the DN.

the people of Stockholm has also received the reply to the issue how they think it helps the beggar in the best way. 65% think you should donate money to organizations helping on the ground in Romania, for example, 31 percent is for the support of the Swedish organisations, 11 per cent want to give directly to beggars, and 25 per cent think that it is best not to donate money at all.
