Every tenth student in the most vulnerable areas in Gothenburg are supporting the extremists – financial times

More than a tenth of the asked a student in two of Gothenburg’s outer boroughs sympathize with religious extremists.

It is reported by GP as part of a survey of 1 200 young people in Angered and Bergsjön.

– the Result is serious and worrying, ” says Zan Jankovski, coordinator for counter-våldsbejakande extremism at the city of Gothenburg, to Aftonbladet.

the Study has been carried out by the association, Neither the whore or subdued. 1 200 school children between 12 and 18 years in the north east of Gothenburg, including stadsdelsområdena Angered and Bergsjön, has replied to questions about religious extremism and hedersförtryck.

One question is about the young people’s attitude to the extremists, such as Islamic state and the jihadists.

more than eleven percent of the surveyed young people, more than 130, replied: “yes, I have sympathy”. 13 percent of respondents said they knew someone else with such sympathies, writes GP.

– Some of the young people we met with are using words like “kafir” non-believer people, and they say that such can “go to hell” and “ICE really makes right” and so on. In a previous study from Stockholm, we could also see that the young people indicated that they were more religious than their parents, ” says Guluzar Tarhan Selvi, acting project manager on Either a whore or subdued, to the newspaper. the Majority of muslims

Half of the participants in the survey say they are “very religious,” according to the GP. The majority identify themselves as muslims, 40% christians and two per cent as non-believers. Most of them have parents born abroad.

– the Result is serious and worrying. At the same time, based on our mission, as the coordinator, we are not completely surprised. We have encountered this type of attitudes in our job. But to measure it, whether it is ten per cent or two per cent, is nothing we can do. Partially confirms the survey the picture we have, ” says Zan Jankovski, coordinator for counter-våldsbejakande extremism at the city of Gothenburg.

the Coordinator’s job is in part to draw attention to the issue and spread knowledge, ” says Zan Jankovski.

– there is a lot to open up the municipality’s regular activities to provide support to relatives or buddies who have an individual in their neighborhood that you are worried might end up in this kind of environment and think, ” he says.

‘ Must be taken seriously"

the Study has been reviewed by, inter alia, Hans Ekbrand, doctor in the Department of sociology at Gothenburg university.

– the Survey should not be seen as a picture of the entire city as the investigation is made in the areas and schools where this problem most likely is the greatest. At the same time, over 130 students answer that they sympathise with the ICE, or the like extremism, it is in very many and a figure which must of course be taken seriously, ” he says to GP.

Ulf Boström, integrationspolis in Gothenburg, look seriously at the outcome of the investigation, but know at the same time, not how well it reflects reality.

” We do not know the circumstances under which they answered the questions. But we’ll only look at the data straight off it gets pretty scary, ” he says to Aftonbladet.

"joke"

the Police’s National operations department have previously described the 53 vulnerable areas in Sweden, of which 15 are classed as particularly vulnerable.

– In this field you can not use freedom of speech as you want. Also, you can’t make it relating to the freedom of the press. Unemployment, dependence on social assistance, the crowded living conditions is greater, and the educational level of young people who complete primary school is beneath all criticism, ” says Ulf Boström, and points out that the vast majority of people who live in those areas are ordinary families who come to Sweden to do the right thing for themselves.

Ulf Boström believes that these areas been abandoned.

– Ethnic white swedes have radicalized over 25 years and do not want to live in undemocratic areas. What we have done, basically, everyone is to move from these areas. We don’t put either of our children in schools there because school performance is so bad, ” he says.

Zan Jankovski at the city of Gothenburg points out that it is a long-term work.

” this is pretty deep-rooted beliefs that set themselves with certain groups and individuals. It requires something for a long time. We need to work very hard with it.

Neither the whore or subdued is a non-profit organization that, according to its website, among other things, fighting “against discrimination, segregation and exclusion” and to “combat the oppression of women and all forms of violence against women”.
