Sweden will contribute sea and air to the Mediterranean – to stop the refugee disasters.

It notifies Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, according to SVT.

– We are prepared, but it takes the necessary clearance, says Mattias Lindholm of the Coast Guard to Aftonbladet.

The recent refugee disasters in the Mediterranean shakes the EU. On Thursday, EU leaders to meet in an extraordinary summit.

Prior to the meeting consulted the Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) today with the Committee.

In connection with this, he gave the news that Sweden will offer help to stop disasters, according to SVT.

– We will do everything we can to stop these tragedies in the Mediterranean. We’ll stop traffickers who exploit people and we need to enhance international cooperation, says Stefan Löfven at the meeting in accordance with SVT.



Requires decision

The EU’s common border agency Frontex has not yet specified how need look. As recently as March of this year patrolled a Swedish aircraft from Coast Guard area to locate boats with refugees.

– We have opportunities, but it takes the necessary clearance and a decision from the government. We have not received any formal request, but can take up a job of going through conditions to send resources, says Mattias Lindholm, communications officer at Coast Guard Aftonbladet.



Many want to go

How fast can you go?

– There is always an aircraft that is ready to start at Skavsta in Nyköping. It could take off almost immediately. But it takes some logistics, such as accommodation on site for the crew and even some state from Italy.

– A ship could leave Sweden with a week’s notice. Since it takes at least a week to go down.

According to Mattias Lindholm has several employees of the Coast Guard already registered their interest to go.

– You want to support their Italian colleagues. And save lives.
