Government proposes new regional division of the country – Swedish Radio

The government wants to reduce the number of counties in Sweden. Changes in population structure, lifestyles and socioeconomic conditions warrant such a reform considers the civilian Minister Ardalan Shekarabi (S) in the DN.

Ten years ago there were plans for a more radical reduction in the number of counties and county councils and 2007 suggested Ansvarsutredningen a new division in Sweden in six regions.

But the proposal provoked an outcry, including Gotland and was then lying on the ice.

But now takes civilian minister up the idea again, and most recently in December 2017, he believes that it should be decided after county subdivision so that one or more regions will be formed in January 2019th
