Geir Lippestad could not go along with Anders Behring Breivik’s requirements. Therefore, he was fired as a mass murderer’s lawyer.

Breivik is sentenced to 21 years in prison and storage after the terrorist attacks in Oslo and on Utøya summer of 2011, when he killed 77 people. Since autumn 2013, he has repeatedly complained about the restrictions in prison and he now wants to pursue the matter in court.

It was too much makes Geir Lippestad, who was defense lawyer for Breivik during the several month long trial and continued to assist him. He believes that the client’s reason for a lawsuit is not realistic.

– It has been shown that there is a large discrepancy in what is his own expectations and what we mean is professionally justifiable. Because there are so many differences in terms of expectations, we have said that we can not accept any new assignment for him, says Lippestad to Aftenposten.no without wanting to go into the demands Breivik has.

Lippestad explains at the same time that pushed Breivik issues of isolation and expression in all the instances that are possible to complain to.

After trial in 2012 has the 50-year-old Lippestad continued as a lawyer. He has also written a book about the case, in which he told of threats and criticism he received after choosing to set up as a defender for Norway’s worst mass murderer. He also received criticism from fellow lawyer because he in the book told about things that Breivik likely to have told him in confidence.

Lippestad has also had political ambitions. Last year he was nominated for the post of Labor Party chairman in Oslo, but decided in the fall to decline.

New Defenders of Breivik will Øystein Storrvik, who previously defended some of Norway’s most notorious criminals.

– My experience is that offenders who sits with long storage judgments perhaps are the group most in need of legal assistance, says Storrvik to Verdens Gang online.
