The Government will develop a new strategy against terrorism – Swedish Radio

The Swedish national strategy against terrorism is outdated. I think the government will now develop a new strategy to prevent terrorism in Sweden.

Sweden current national strategy was born in February 2012. Since then, Much has changed, says the government now intends to introduce a new one. Interior Minister Anders Ygeman pointing to where people are traveling from Sweden to the Middle East to fight for terrorist organizations, such as IS.

– We have those who travel and battles abroad and then comes back and can pose a terrorist threat. We have a need for prevention efforts that people should not be radicalized, says Anders Ygeman.

According Ygeman missing the current approach these preventive measures. Challenges looks considerably different today compared to a few years ago. Although terrorist attacks in Paris and the planned attack in Belgium has affected.

– It is clear that there have affected to the extent that we are facing new challenges. We need to see if the tools that police and security officers have is the right one to meet the threat of terrorism, says Anders Ygeman.

Now the government plans to soon make a decision to initiate work to develop a new national strategy against terrorism. This should be presented before the summer.

– The strategy will be a coat. But while the strategy worked out, we will also present new measures.

The threat against Sweden has not been increased since the previous strategy. Why do you want another one?

– The threat has not been raised since we had a heightened threat against Sweden since 2010. However, the threat has changed. Those who go away and battles in other countries and come back to Sweden has built up capacity and poses a much greater threat to Sweden now than before, says Interior Minister Anders Ygeman.
