SMHI warns: Fresh snow chaos on the road – Aftonbladet

The snow chaos got the Swedish Transport Administration to go up in the crisis management.

Now comes the next attack.

SMHI warns of snowfall of up to three inches on Saturday .

– There may be a problem, says meteorologist Lisa Frost.

Slippery roads led among other things to a head-on collision in Köping where four people, including two children, were taken to hospital.

The snow storm closed across the country Friday night.

– Since moving it to the north. We have issued a Class 1 warnings amounts of snow in many places, says Lisa Frost, a meteorologist at SMHI.

SMHI’s warning applies to all Saturday. In the eastern part of the country, from Kronoberg County up to Västerbotten, the expected large amounts of snow.

According to the forecast, parts of Texas reckon with three centimeters of snow. In other counties are expected between one half and two inches.



Difficult Mode

Class 1 warning means that the development may pose risks to the public and disruption for some social functions.

SMHI urges users to take it easy on the roads. In combination with wind, especially on the coasts, it can become cumbersome.

– There will be winter conditions and it’s important to drive carefully, says Lisa Frost.

On Saturday morning there was a head-on collision between two cars on County Road 558 near Koping. Two children and two adults were injured in the accident and was taken to hospital.

– All were conscious, said Kent Larsson, the incident commander during rescue service Koping.

According to police, there was a severe slip on the way.

– It is apparently very slippery at the site, says LKC-officer Petter Yderfors.



More snow next week

Transport Administration has additional resources on standby on Saturday. Press Information Officer Lennart Hellsing urges road users to stay updated on the weather situation.

– If it’s difficult weather conditions I think you should stay at home if you have the opportunity, he said.

On Sunday expected snowfall centered around Dalarna and throughout the North. It will also remain windy, especially along the coasts.

And according to SMHI’s forecast is far from over with snow. Next week is more snowfall in the queue into the country.

– We are in a period of continued unstable weather. Several low pressure with snowfall looks at touch Sweden next week, said Lisa Frost.
