Gene behind stillbirth identified – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

The gene causes the muscles stop working, a syndrome called FADS. Most people with the syndrome die in utero or shortly after birth, according to Dagens Nyheter and UNT.

How common the newly discovered gene mutation are researchers do not know. Therefore, they want to map the frequency of the population. It is also unclear how many of the unsolved cases of fetal death due to it.

– Most likely, it is very unusual because this particular gene has not been identified before, says researcher Maria Wilbe at Uppsala University DN.

The study is published in the Journal of Medical Genetics;
