Because it is no legal ways to get to Europe, people are at the mercy of smugglers. It is a problem because they are in a very vulnerable and precarious situation, says Disa Helander of the Board of Farr.

Farr example, proposes that visa requirements abolished for people from a country where there is an outbreak of violent conflict and that an asylum application will be reviewed as a valid reason to grant the visa.

-Since you have to be in the country where they are seeking asylum as it is today smugglers who makes sure that people can actually get to Europe, says Disa Helander.

It is not wrong focus to identify undocumented and smugglers, according to police. Although it is often the only available path into the EU countries and the countries connected to the Schengen Agreement for people in need.

Yes, it can be so. But we have to work and act against human trafficking. We see that when they take them in the Schengen area, it is often extremely dangerous roads. It’s totally unacceptable conditions and we can not sedentary sit and watch. They earn the big money on this, says Petra Stenkula, deputy director at the county judicial police in Skåne, TT.

The EU-wide police campaign will last for two weeks, starting on Monday. According Stenkula Swedish police have participated in seven similar efforts in recent years.

Several media outlets have reported that the upcoming operation has been criticized for chasing undocumented within the borders of Sweden. But the aim of the operation is not to chase people who have been refused asylum, police said.

That’s not interesting in this effort. The object is not to find people who are in the country and has already applied for asylum, but to identify the roads where they smuggle people and keep track of the criminals, says Petra Stenkula.

TT: Changing the operation of the police working out on the field?

-No, do not do it at all. We have a common monitoring and a joint work that is more specifically during these weeks where we work together. It is not different for another ordinary week, says Petra Stenkula.
